Why aren’t we talking?

Having been on my travels in London last week and in Bristol this week I have noticed one fundamental thing that we do when we are travelling (me included)!  Can you guess?

We shut ourselves off, open our books, play on our phones so even eye contact and interaction is avoided.  I especially love the tubes in London, no-one looks up from what they are doing.  No-one even smiles.  It makes be laugh because I try to smile at people and they don’t know what to do.

I meet many clients who say to me that no-one else in their office is having problems, they seem ok, am I all alone?

Fundamentally, lack of communication is making us feel isolated!!  I know from my own experiences if I wasn’t willing to share and talk about what I was going through people around me can’t learn from me.  I may be able to offer insight to other’s people issues by just sharing.

We are all a wealth of information and one little word or comment or even a smile might make that person’s day.  We don’t know what is going on with other people, what is laying buried deep within them, maybe they need to hear an inspiration quote or find that book they have been searching for.

Sharing is important

Sharing our problems or our challenges isn’t a sign of weakness if you share them in the right way.  If we continually moan and groan and become a victim to our challenges then the other person switches off and communication is lost.  However, if we are sharing our challenges then others might have the perfect solution for us.

So when you are feeling down and need a little “pick me up” give it back to someone else, it might make their day too!!

Top tip : Don’t feel isolated, you are not alone, others are probably suffering the same as you are.  Reach out and ask for support.
