We’re ready to give you a career with a sense of purpose

Are you passionate about your career at the moment? Does it give you a sense of purpose and fulfilment?

Become a Kick Ass Your Life coach. Make the change to a fulfilling career.Book cover

The Kick Ass Your Life programme helps people address situations where they’ve reached a crossroads in their life, had their world turned upside down, or are unhappy with the direction life is taking them.

Before I created the Kick Ass Your Life programme, I was following the same old 9-5, 5 days a week job routine. Up early to catch the train, busy, busy all day, working to deliver another few £s for the business owner or shareholders benefit.

I started to question what I was doing. My real desire was to help people, be part of a community and ultimately, be my own boss and take control my life.

I started to realise I was far from fulfilled in my job.

  • I missed a sense of purpose, because I wasn’t enriching my life or the lives of others
  • My mind wasn’t being challenged by working with the same people every day
  • I was missing out by not meeting new and interesting like-minded people
  • I felt very little passion doing a job that took up a large part of my life
  • I was frustrated by not fulfilling my potential

By creating the Kick Ass Your Life programme and becoming a coach, I was able to leave my unfulfilling job, take control of my own career and turn it into one that addressed my personal needs and gave me a strong sense of purpose.

I’d now like to help you get the career you desire. Become a Kick Ass Your Life coach and you’ll be provided with all the support to set-up, deliver and earn from a “Kick Ass Your Life” – my proven life coaching programme.

How I survived 11 years transforming people’s lives?

This year I have been transforming people’s lives for 11 years!!  Whoop, whoop.

First print of my book, so excited!

First print of my book, so excited!

I’ve made lots of mistakes, probably upset a few people but the journey has been great so I thought I would share with you my ups and downs.

I remember the first time I walked into my therapy room awaiting my very first client and sitting in the chair, pumping my fist into the air saying “I’ve made it”.  I felt a sense of excitement and achievement that after years of training as a holistic therapist I was finally going to meet a client.  Although I forgot the whole routine the client still went out feeling exhilarated.  I was totally hooked!

Little did I know that 6 years later I would be feeling burnt-out, fed-up and frustrated with fixing people.  The upshot was that I learnt a lot!!  Thanks to all my wonderful clients I started to look at how they changed, why they changed and what was I doing right.  This lead me down a different route – still helping people but in a different way – coaching and mentoring.  I feel like I was totally empowering them with the right information to change their lives and thanks to the hard work at the beginning of my journey had my own system of change – It’s easy as EBC.

In between my business I bought up 3 lovely children and I can see the influence I have on them which feels great.  Before Christmas I had my middle son asking me to help him to find his purpose – wow what 19-year-old would say that!

However, business isn’t all about making money, seeing clients and marketing I’ve had to go through quite a personal self-development journey too.  There were moments where money was scarce, the clients dried up and I was totally going to give up – at least once or twice!  I’ve had the help of mentors and coaches and I follow people that really inspire me.  Also, my friend Julie has been my rock, she has always believed in me and never let me give up.

What holds my business together is the passion that I have of helping people, if I didn’t have this then I would have given up, easily.  All I ever wanted to do is to help people, to empower them to transform their lives.  I think I have achieved this.

I’m so glad I stuck it out.  With all the years of experience I was able to write a book in 4 weeks and last November my book was published – Kick Ass Your Life.  I feel like a true expert in my field – the last 11 years have all been worth it.

In a few weeks time I will be launching my Kick Ass Your Life Academy where I will be sharing how I transform people’s lives.

Are your core values killing you and your business?

I am always amazed on two things when working with my clients, that is :-

  1. When my clients work and live by their values they are happier and more successful.
  2. Most people don’t know what their values are.

I think they know what their values are but they are not aware of how much an influence their health and success depends on it.  If I asked you “what are your core values” you would probably come up with one or two values that you do live by but do you actually make decisions based on your core values?

The simple fact is, if you are not living and working based on your core values stress is playing a major part in your life – which is definitely a slow burning killer to your health and success.

How do you work out your core values?

Ask yourself one simple question:-

What do other people do around you that frustrates you?”.

Become aware throughout the day and see what annoys and frustrates you; do people being late annoy you, others being incompetent winds you up, sitting in an office frustrates you, not having enough time with your family worries you or if you don’t exercise then you become grumpy!

Authenticity and honesty are two of my values and if I meet people that are guarded and not sure about who they are that would really frustrate me.  Knowing those values will help me make decisions about whether I continue to be around those people or those groups or find other groups that share my values – it makes the decision much easier for me.  I feel more energized and productive when I live and work within these values.

So are you living and working by your core values? We all have a set of 5 or so core values which are very important to us.  I see it all the time when my clients cross these core values they become frustrated, angry and stressed.  However, when they do live and work by these core values they are happier, more focused and the money flows easily into their businesses.

I heard Jo Fairley speak last night, co-founder of Green’s and Black’s and her comments compounded my understanding further.  She said that their chocolate and brand was based on her and her husband’s values.  She said this was an important part of her success and also made her a great ethical leader.

The next time you are struggling with a decision to make, write down your 5 core values and ask yourself – do these cross your core values?  Don’t build that business that goes across them, don’t find another job which will leave you feeling stressed because they will be killing you and your success.  Find a better way to live and work on purpose, stay true to your values.

2016 is a year where people are looking for meaning – to live and work on purpose!

If you are still struggling with your core values then Kick Ass Your Life workshop will help you get the clarity you need. Look forward to seeing you there!

SLEEPING AT NIGHT, LIVING MY DREAMS – WHAT ANN HOBBS DID FOR ME, by British crime thriller writer AA Abbott

“I don’t know how you function,” my husband sighed. “You have the self-esteem of an amoeba. Somehow, you manage to get up every morning, interact with people and hold down a responsible job.”

I shrugged my shoulders and agreed with him. Everything he said was true. Although successful in my career, my lack of self-esteem meant I was often stressed. I just accepted that was the way I was built. It didn’t occur to me that change was possible. Dabbling with self-help books and seeing Tony Robbins speak at the Excel centre (like a weekend-long rock concert!) taught me useful techniques, but nothing that made me value myself.

Helen Website PicThat has changed, thanks to Ann.

Despite being terrified of having to talk to strangers, my work forced me to go networking. I did it a lot. By the time I met Ann, I’d even won an award for it and made lots of helpful business connections and lovely friends. I’d seen Ann several times and we’d had a coffee together before I admitted I had trouble sleeping.

“I can fix that – but I don’t do quick fixes,” Ann told me.

It was a leap of faith to begin Ann’s programme, but by then I totally trusted her. After all, it’s the golden rule of networking: know, like and trust someone, and you’ll want to do business with them. I signed up.

Ann quickly established a few fundamental facts about me. My confidence, already low, had taken a battering when I worked for companies who didn’t share my values. Having taken six months off to write fiction (a gripping thriller called Up In Smoke), I now had the chance of some accountancy work again for a few months, but it was a long way from home.

“You’ve decided what rate you want, and that the commute will be too demanding unless you work two days a week from home,” Ann said. “So you’ll have to ask for that. Be clear with them.”

“What if they turn me down?” I asked.

“There will be other jobs,” Ann told me. “I don’t know why you’re anxious about finding work, because it always comes to you, even in the middle of the deepest recessions.”

She was right, and I knew it. I’d started my working life in recession-hit Birmingham. Even as a shy twenty-one-year-old, with limited qualifications, I’d found work I enjoyed. I was now qualified and experienced, with skills that were in demand. During the recent credit crunch, I did a succession of interesting temporary assignments. Accountancy plays to my strengths, as I love writing and I find maths easy as well.

“I don’t have the confidence to say what I want,” I realised.

Ann taught me how to make sure I was confident during the interview. Once I started the job, I stayed on her programme. She helped me see there was nothing wrong with combining accountancy and writing. Each year, I do about six months of each, publishing one crime thriller a year. So far, there have been three: The Bride’s Trail (my most recent one), After The Interview and Up In Smoke. They’ve had great reviews on Amazon and Goodreads, and I get a real buzz knowing I’ve entertained readers. Now I’m living my dreams, I sleep really well too…

Is living and working on purpose more fulfilling?

Me and my book

Success means different things to different people, so how do you define success?  What would make you successful?

These are some things that most of my clients ask me but they are never the same.  Most of my clients come from an accountancy background and most do not define success by how much money they have.  They define success by feeling that they have a purpose to their life and career; to make an impact in the career that they have chosen.

Which this week led me to think about my clients and the successes that they achieved this year.  I realised that most of them got what they wanted when they had clarity on how they wanted to live and work and the opportunities appeared. But I dug a little deeper and realised that the more they work and live on purpose the happier, wealthier and successful they were.

Which leads me back to the question “Is living and working on purpose more fulfilling?”.

I believe it is, my clients feel less stressed, they have time to do what they love, passion for things outside of their work and more in control of their life.  They have taken time to get clear on what they want and then took action to make that happen.

So why aren’t we all living and working on purpose?  I believe we don’t take the time to get clear on what we want, we feel we “must” work in a particular way, we can’t possibly make money from doing things that we love.  It is harder to stand up for our values, to take a stance to say I’m working and living the way I want too!  However if we do, then I believe working and living on purpose always makes us happier.

Don’t let 2016 be another year that you aren’t happy and successful.  Take the time now to ask yourself:-

How do I want to live and work in 2016?

Good luck and let me know how you want to live and work.

Excited – new excerpt from my new book!!

You are the one of the first to read an excerpt from my new book.  I’m in the midst of writing it and I was too excited too wait (as writing a book is like climbing everest but I am determined to write it all in a month).

How do you build a solid foundation?

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who build his house on the rock. And the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it – Matthew 24:2

It's ok to be YOU!

The only thing you can ever change in life – as I have found this out several times – is YOU!

Now as I said before you are not broken so you don’t need fixing but what you do need to do is to discover who you really are. In this chapter I will bring to light why you don’t know who you are and what is hampering you being the person you are. That’s sounds like a contradiction but go with me and read this chapter.

If we try and change circumstances and other people it always leads to us feeling angry and anxious because we are out of control. We simply can’t do it and that is why thinking positively about a situation or a person will help immensely.

But we find ourselves in places or being around people that we don’t actually want to be around and thus knowing what are likes and dislikes are is going to really build a firm foundation for the journey called “life”.

When I was writing this chapter I remembered the song I sung at Sunday School, the man who built his house upon the rock and hence the quote from the bible at the beginning of this chapter.

I am not at all religious but I felt that this was a great analogy to use and this is what this chapter is all about creating a firm foundation as you will be strong enough to face anything and with that solid foundation you build a successful life on top (whatever success means to you).

How can you build your solid foundation?  What does that mean to you?

I hope you enjoyed a sneaky peak at what I am writing.  I would love your comments.

Enjoy – until next time when I will share even more of my book.

How to Surrender?

Over the past few months when my life has seemingly gone off the rails I have learnt how to surrender and as people say “go with the flow”.  I thought I would share with you some tips that have served me well. As my life was going off the rails I looked deeply at what I was like as a person.  All my life I have pushed things and got stressed out when they didn’t happen and so I decided to take a different route. I asked for guidance from the universe on this and I got the words “trust and surrender”.

What stops us from taking action and how to overcome it?

What the hell does that mean?

I thought to myself if I didn’t push towards my goals then I would be wasting time and wouldn’t get there.  All fear based.  I thought about it and realised that when I’ve been pushing towards my goals I haven’t been seeing where I was going – I was blinded and only saw the goal.  Do you know how that feels when you don’t even see your successes? As I was in the process of finding out what trust and surrender meant and I came across this quote:-

“You can’t build a new life on an old paradigm.

Don’t expect yourself to know the steps in the dance when you have never heard the music.

Easy does it.  Be curious, be humble and be teachable”

This quote really resonated with me.  I didn’t know the steps and my ego was having a field day telling me I couldn’t do it and how can I get there if I don’t know etc etc.

I surrendered!!!

IMG_0246

So I did surrender to the unfolding of my life and it feels good.  I know what my goals are but I’m not focusing on how to get there.  I trust and believe that I will be shown the way.  I now hear the birds signing in the morning, I now notice when I’m laughing with my children, I now see the steps that will take me to my dreams and desires. Here are the five tips that I thought I would share with you so that you also trust and surrender to what ever is unfolding in your life:-

  1. Be open and willing to learn more – about yourself and the opportunities that will present themselves.  Don’t have any perceptions on what it will look like.
  2. Don’t stress – do what you can with what you have.
  3. Trust and believe in your self – you can do this!
  4. See the beauty in everything and give thanks to what you already have.
  5. Stop pushing – allow things to come to you.

I hope these tips help you with whatever challenges you are facing in your life.

Let me know how you get on with these tips.

Until next time.

How to reconnect with who you are?

Working over the years with my clients and my own self discovery work I find that many ask me this profound question and one I think that many of you will be asking yourselves-  “How do I reconnect with who I am?”

I know over the years I lost my sense of being when I became a mother because you tend to pour everything into your children.  Also playing the role of mother, business woman, wife, sister and daughter has left me feeling disconnected with MYSELF

This is where I meet a lot of my clients who are asking the same question.  They are feeling disconnected with their life, feeling unhappy and know deep down there is something more.

Be yourself!

I have a secret I want to share with you!

One way we get lost that the core of these problems lie with the bond with your mother.  It feels like my clients cannot become who they want to be because of expectations that has been passed down generation to generation.  Like the “rules” of society that we are all trying to fit into.  However, this covers us in a visibility cloak (just like Harry Potter) where you can’t see the real you and neither can others.  When we take this cloak off we are left with the question “who am I”.

It took a tragedy in my family to really “wake me up” to the possibility that I was not being the person that I came here to be.  I found out that all my family had the same digestive problems, the same emotional problems and the list goes on.  I thought it must be hereditary and something which I couldn’t do anything about.  I will always remember one of my clients say to me that her mother had depression and her grandmother so she was waiting for the moment she became depressed.  That comment made me very sad because we CAN do something about, it is not hereditary, it is a learnt behaviour.  The good news is that if it is learnt, we can un-learn it.  Magic!!

Get excited about what you love!

Are you the youngest in your family?

The other thing I have learnt over the years is that it is always the youngest child that will want to explore this mother-daughter bond because it gets to a point of extricating pain, it can no longer be passed down to the next generation.

As some of you will know, if you have worked with me, I don’t like nonsense, I tell you how it is and I want to get straight to the core because I know that is where I will impact people’s lives.  I can do the other stuff, the softly, softly approach but I am not being of service to you when I know a quicker way. When I started on my self discovery path 15 years ago I started with the layers, and I’m sure you know that every therapist or coach says you have to peel away at the layers and this takes years and years.  If like me you want instant results and profound changes you need to start at the very core.

This is where I start with my mother and daughter bond – pulling that invisibility cloak away to reveal the person inside, I’m not trying to change you, I simply want to reveal the truth.

To help you move forwards today to reconnecting with who you are below are four things that are really important:-

  1. understand your values;
  2. create rules that fit in with your values and beliefs;
  3. trust your feelings – you do know best;
  4. explore what you love to do

These will instantly reconnect you with the truth of who you are.

If you want to explore the mother-daughter bond, for the first time, I am doing a one day workshop to help you to understand why this is important.
